Storm Ascent: Records Fall at Jenn Boyman Memorial Invitational
The Speed of the Storm: Recapping the NWAC Leaderboard Shifts at Jenn Boyman
MCMINNVILLE, Ore. — The Chemeketa Storm track and field distance crew arrived at the Jenn Boyman Memorial Invitational with a clear mission: execute, compete, and climb. By the time the final heats concluded, the Storm had done more than just compete—they had significantly altered the program's all-time record books, fueled by a series of career-best performances and strategic racing.
The Harris Highlight: A Double-Leaderboard Leap
The story of the meet belonged to Sophia Harris, who delivered one of the most productive single-day performances in recent program history. Harris demonstrated elite versatility, securing Personal Bests (PBs) in two distinct middle-distance events.
In the 1500m, Harris showcased her late-race strength, shaving nearly three seconds off her previous mark to clock in at 5:25.77. This performance officially moves her to #13 all-time in the Chemeketa history books.
Refusing to rest on her laurels, she returned to the track for the 800m, dropping a massive PB of 2:42.22. That time not only vaults her to #14 on the Chemeketa all-time list but also plants her firmly in the regional conversation, ranking her #20 in the NWAC.
The 800m Speed Trap
The 800-meter heats proved to be the most fertile ground for Storm records on Saturday. Alongside Harris, the Storm middle-distance squad showcased the depth and development of the current roster.
-
Andrea Maciel Rodriguez turned in a tactical masterpiece, surging to a 2:49.33 PB. Her breakout performance earned her the #17 spot all-time for the Storm and a #23 ranking in the NWAC.
-
Gisselle Andrade-Jacobo displayed veteran-level grit in the final 100 meters, fighting through the "wall" to clock a 3:11.45. This new Season Best (SB) moves her up to #37 in the NWAC rankings, positioning her well for the back half of the season.
Grit and Recovery
The meet also served as a reminder of the physical demands of elite track and field. Alyssa Collins faced a difficult physical mishap during the 1500m that forced an early exit from the race. While a frustrating result for an athlete of her caliber, the Storm coaching staff and teammates emphasized their support for her recovery. Given her track record of resilience, the program expects to see her back on the starting line with renewed focus in the coming weeks.
