Building Momentum: Chemeketa Women Post Consistent Marks at Pacific University
FOREST GROVE, Ore. — The Chemeketa Storm track and field program reached a historic milestone this weekend, as a wave of endurance athletes surged into the school's all-time leaderboards. From veteran stalwarts to fearless debutants, the Storm didn't just compete—they etched their names alongside the greatest to ever wear the blue and gold.
By the time the final heat concluded, three different athletes had officially cracked the Chemeketa All-Time Top 20, signaling a new era of dominance for the program's distance wing.
The Leaderboard Leap: Top 20 Totals
The highlight of the meet belonged to the trio of Harris, Collins, and Maciel, who turned in performances that reshaped the program's historical landscape.
Sophia Harris (#13 All-Time)
In her highly anticipated season debut in the 1500m, Sophia Harris delivered a masterclass in pacing. Harris crossed the finish line with a blistering time of 5:28.25. The mark doesn't just represent a strong season opener; it catapults her to the #13 spot on the Chemeketa All-Time list, firmly establishing her as one of the premier middle-distance runners in school history.
Alyssa Collins (#15 All-Time)
Perhaps the most stunning performance of the weekend came from Alyssa Collins. Stepping onto the track for the first 5,000m (5K) race of her career, Collins showed veteran-level composure. She clocked a 25:39.93, an incredible feat for a debut that landed her at #15 all-time for the event.
Andrea Maciel Rodriguez (#19 All-Time)
Rounding out the record-breaking trio was Andrea Maciel. Competing in a dense 1500m field, Maciel showed incredible grit over the final lap to post a time of 5:54.01. The performance earned her the #19 spot on the all-time leaderboard, rewarding her off-season dedication with a place in the history books.
Season Debuts and Gritty Finishes
The depth of this year's roster was on full display beyond the record-breakers. Gisselle Andrade-Jacobo made her season debut in the 800m, battling through a physical heat to finish in 3:14.18. While she narrowly missed the Top 20 cut, her performance was a clear signal that she is just a few strides away from joining her teammates on the list.
In the 5K, Skylar Sitser showcased the heart of a competitor, fighting through the early stages of the race with the leaders. Unfortunately, Sitser was forced to withdraw mid-race due to an injury. The Storm family and coaching staff are rallied behind Skylar, wishing her a smooth and speedy recovery as she begins her journey back to the track.
