Never Out of the Fight: Chemeketa’s Rally Falls Short in Game 2 Thriller
Extra-Base Power: Noonkester and Moore Lead Offensive Surge in Game 2
COOS BAY, Ore. — The Chemeketa Storm softball team faced a relentless Southwestern Oregon Community College (SWOCC) squad on Friday, dropping both ends of a doubleheader by scores of 7-0 and 7-4. Despite flashes of offensive momentum and gritty performances in the circle, the Storm were unable to overcome the Lakers' timely power hitting and capitalizations on defensive miscues.
The road trip to the coast proved to be a test of endurance for Chemeketa as they fought to stay within striking distance against one of the region's top-tier lineups.
Game 1: Hudson Silences Storm Bats
Final: SWOCC 7, Chemeketa 0
The opener was defined by a dominant performance from SWOCC's Hadley Hudson, who held the Storm to just five hits while racking up seven strikeouts in a complete-game shutout.
Addison Bennett took the ball for Chemeketa and battled through six tough innings. SWOCC jumped out to an early lead in the second with three runs and added insurance in the fourth via a two-run homer from Hudson herself. While the Storm defense saw a standout double from Layni Noonkester and a multi-hit performance from Ava Woods (2-for-3), Chemeketa struggled to string together the hits needed to crack the scoreboard.
Game 2: Early Lead and Late Rally Fall Short
Final: SWOCC 7, Chemeketa 4
The nightcap saw the Storm offense find its rhythm early. Chemeketa struck first in the opening frame when Layni Noonkester reached on a fielder's choice to plate Ava Woods.
The momentum shifted in the second inning when the Lakers capitalized on two Storm errors to put up a five-run crooked number. Trailing 5-1, Chemeketa showed their characteristic "never-say-die" attitude. Meagan Trissell drove in Zoe Moore in the third, and a two-run surge in the fourth—featuring an Ava Woods RBI single—brought the Storm within a single run at 5-4.
However, SWOCC's Faith Hite answered with a two-run blast in the bottom of the fourth to push the lead to 7-4. Laney Deloe tossed a complete game for the Storm, settling down to hold the Lakers scoreless over the final two innings, but the Chemeketa rally stalled in the seventh.

Coach's Perspective
"We played them close in that second game and showed a lot of heart coming back from that early deficit," said the coaching staff. "In this conference, you can't give good teams extra outs. We'll look to clean up the defensive side and carry that offensive spark back home as we prepare for the next series."
