Storm explodes for 20 runs in game two to earn a split
Game 1 saw Centralia College take control early and cruise to a 12-3 victory over the Storm. The doubleheader was played at Belmodis Field on the campus of Chemeketa Community College.
Centralia set the tone early with a two-run first inning, capitalizing on a Chemeketa error. Despite Chemeketa's efforts to respond with two runs in the bottom of the first, including a run scored on a wild pitch, Centralia maintained control throughout the game.
The third inning was pivotal for Centralia as they unleashed a five-run rally. J. Luis and M. Fluetsch were instrumental, with Luis hitting a crucial double that brought in a run, followed by Fluetsch's bases-clearing double that added three more runs to Centralia's tally.
Centralia's offense kept constant pressure on the Storm, with J. Luis leading the charge. He went 3-for-5, driving in five runs, and hitting two doubles. M. Fluetsch also had an impressive performance, contributing three RBIs with his timely double.
On the mound, A. Hernandez delivered a solid performance for Centralia, pitching a complete game allowing only four hits and three runs while striking out two batters.
Chemeketa's efforts were led by J. Rule, who contributed offensively with an RBI single in the first inning and pitched the entire game.
Game 2 saw Chemeketa Storm back with a 20-5 victory.
The game started with Centralia taking the lead in the top of the first, as M. Fluetsch scored off a groundout RBI by C. White. However, Chemeketa responded swiftly in their half, with A. Archuleta walking in a run and Z. Moore contributing an RBI flyout to take a 2-1 lead.
Centralia briefly regained the lead in the second inning following a two-RBI single by N. Loose, bringing the score to 3-2. This lead, however, was short-lived as Chemeketa unleashed a formidable offensive onslaught in the bottom of the third. Z. Moore's three-run homer ignited a scoring spree that saw Chemeketa tally 13 runs in the inning alone. Mcka. Dodge's three-RBI triple and crucial RBIs from multiple players, including C. Weaving and A. Cavazos, extended their lead to 15-3.
Chemeketa continued their relentless attack in the fourth inning, adding five more runs to their total. Z. Moore delivered a two-RBI single, and capitalized further on wild pitches to reach a commanding 20-3 lead.
Centralia attempted a late rally in the fifth inning with R. Gray and N. Chavez each delivering RBI doubles, but it was too little too late as Chemeketa's 20-run total proved insurmountable.
Key Performers for Chemeketa were Z. Moore driving in seven runs, including a home run and multiple singles, Mcka. Dodge contributed significantly with a three-RBI triple and consistent presence at the plate.
For Centralia's N. Chavez demonstrated resilience with a 3-for-3 performance, including an RBI double in the fifth inning.
L. DeLoe secured the win for Chemeketa, pitching a complete game.
