Storm Battle Through Double Overtime in Heartbreaking Road Loss
Marathon in Coos Bay: Chemeketa’s Heroic Effort Ends in 93-87 Loss.
COOS BAY, Ore. — In a grueling contest that required two extra periods to decide, the Chemeketa Storm (6-12, 1-4) fell just short against Southwestern Oregon Community College (SWOCC) on Monday afternoon, dropping a 93-87 thriller. Despite a heroic 29-point effort from Gavin Aguilar and a resilient defensive performance, the Storm were unable to withstand a late surge from the Lakers in the second overtime.
A Tale of Two Halves
Chemeketa established an early rhythm, heading into the locker room with a 34-31 lead at halftime. The Storm's defense was active from the jump, but the second half saw SWOCC find their offensive flow, outscoring Chemeketa 39-36 to force regulation into a 70-70 stalemate.
Overtime Drama
The intensity reached a fever pitch in the first overtime period. Both squads traded buckets in a high-stakes chess match, matching each other with 12 points apiece to remain deadlocked at 82-82. However, as the game entered a second overtime, fatigue and a cold shooting stretch hampered the Storm. Chemeketa managed only 5 points in the final five minutes, while SWOCC pulled away with an 11-point frame to secure the win.
Storm Standouts
-
Gavin Aguilar: Led all scorers with a dominant 29 points. He shot 10-of-24 from the field and was a perfect 5-of-5 from the free-throw line while logging 43 minutes.

By The Numbers
The Storm showed remarkable discipline at the charity stripe, finishing the afternoon at an 86.4% clip (19-of-22). While Chemeketa struggled from deep—hitting just 29.4% of their three-pointers—their work on the glass kept them in the hunt. The Storm matched the Lakers with 45 total rebounds and capitalized on second-chance opportunities with 13 offensive boards.
"It was a battle of attrition today. Our guys showed incredible heart playing through two overtimes on the road, but we just couldn't find the bottom of the net when it mattered most in that final period." — Storm Coaching View.
