Storm Baseball's 1-2 Punch Earn First-Team All-League Honors; Hooper and Sheller Recognized Among NWAC Elite
The Heart of the Order: Breaking Down the Storm’s 2026 All-League Awards
SALEM, Ore. — The accolades continue to roll in for Chemeketa Baseball as the NWAC South has officially announced its All-League selections for the 2026 season. Highlighting a year of grit and defensive excellence, the Storm saw two of its primary leaders, Wyatt Hooper and Kyle Sheller, secure First-Team honors. These selections underscore a season where veteran leadership and high-IQ play anchored the Storm's efforts on the diamond.
Here is a closer look at the First-Team standouts:
Wyatt Hooper | 1st-Team All-League (Catcher)
Wyatt Hooper established himself as one of the premier backstops in the conference, combining an elite defensive presence with a highly disciplined approach at the plate. Behind the dish, Hooper was nearly flawless, posting a remarkable .990 fielding percentage and serving as the foundational anchor for the Storm's pitching staff. Offensively, he was a nightmare for opposing pitchers to retire, recording a .414 on-base percentage fueled by 23 walks and 36 hits. Whether he was driving one of his 8 doubles into the gap or managing the game from the crouch, Hooper's consistency was the heartbeat of the Storm's starting nine.
Kyle Sheller | 1st-Team All-League (Infield)
Earning his spot as a First-Team infielder, Kyle Sheller proved to be a versatile weapon who could impact the game in every phase. Sheller showcased a knack for extra-base hits, tallying 9 doubles and 2 triples as part of a 39-hit campaign. Beyond his .287 batting average, Sheller's value was magnified by his activity on the basepaths, where he swiped 8 stolen bases, and his reliability in the field, finishing with a sharp .959 fielding percentage. His ability to manufacture runs and stabilize the infield defense made him one of the most respected all-around players in the Southern Region this season.
A Standard of Excellence
The selection of both Hooper and Sheller to the First Team highlights the "defense-first" culture being built at Chemeketa. By anchoring the two most demanding defensive positions on the field—catcher and the infield dirt—while maintaining productive offensive outputs, these two student-athletes have set a professional standard for the program's underclassmen.
