Storm Salvage Road Split: Late-Inning Resilience Secures Game 2 Win in Eugene
Max Eaton Goes the Distance: A Complete-Game Masterclass in Eugene
EUGENE, Ore. — The Chemeketa Storm navigated a challenging doubleheader in Eugene this past Saturday, battling through a difficult shutout in the opener before showcasing true team grit in a 4-3 comeback victory to salvage a split against the Lane Titans.
The day in Eugene was defined by tactical adjustments and high-leverage defensive efforts, as the Storm proved their ability to bounce back against a tough conference opponent on the road.
Game 1: Lane Takes the Opener in Pitcher's Duel
Final: Lane 4, Chemeketa 0
The first game of the day saw the Storm struggle to find offensive traction against a masterful performance from Lane's Torsten Hersom. Despite the efforts of Ryne Hockman, who worked through 6.0 innings on the mound, the Titans consistently manufactured runs across the middle frames.
Hockman surrendered four runs, but showed tenacity throughout his 104-pitch outing, keeping the Storm within striking distance. However, the offense was held to just three hits, with Chase Saunders, Ty Sheldon, and Liam Irish providing the only base knocks of the contest. While the result was disappointing, the Storm used the performance as a wake-up call to tighten their approach for the nightcap.
Game 2: Hooper's Heroics Seal the Split
Final: Chemeketa 4, Lane 3
The nightcap was a different story as the Storm offense roared to life in the fifth inning. After trailing 1-0, Chemeketa knotted the game in the third when Isaiah Sanchez drove in Owen Sonne on a gritty groundout.
The decisive moment arrived in the top of the fifth. With the bases juiced, Wyatt Hooper delivered the most significant hit of the day: a three-RBI double that cleared the bags and vaulted the Storm into a 4-1 lead. It was a textbook example of situational hitting that has defined Chemeketa's offensive surges this season.
On the mound, Max Eaton was the iron man. He tossed a complete-game seven innings, working through 97 pitches and navigating a bases-loaded threat late in the game to preserve the lead. Despite a late rally from Lane, Eaton's command and the Storm's defensive focus held the line to secure the 4-3 win.

Looking Ahead
"Baseball is a game of adjustments," the coaching staff noted. "We learned a lot about their staff in Game 1, and we were able to turn those lessons into runs in Game 2. Max [Eaton] showed a ton of heart to finish that game, and Wyatt [Hooper} came through when we needed it most. That's how you win on the road in the NWAC."
The Storm head back to Salem with the split, carrying momentum into their next series as they continue to climb in the conference standings.
